Nearly half of local households rent, yet stable, year-round homes are scarce and getting pricier year after year. We organize tenants, seasonal and year-round workers, and housing allies to win real fixes, more secure rentals, better standards, wages, and faster delivery of employee housing.
Organize renters to speak with one voice at Council.
Help tenants navigate BC rules and the RTB (Residential Tenancy Branch) when things go wrong.
Push concrete wins to council, like locking CAC to employee-restricted rental on key sites.
The Racket Club (4500 Northlands): turn rezoning value into homes. Our chance to secure funding for the next round of new housing in Whistler!
A massive plot of central land has seen limited development for decades and currently houses the Whistler Racket Club. The RMOW is finally at the cusp of striking a deal to have it developed. Will this be housing for us? Not necessarily. But if a deal gets made, there will be a Community Amenity Contribution (CAC) currently estimated between about $38.6 million and $57.8 million. The town is currently debating what to do with this money (if a deal finally gets made), including calls to fund a seniors’ centre. We view this as misplaced—we need housing for our essential workers and young parents, now.
We urge council to vote to strike a deal for redevelopment as soon as possible, get shovels in the ground, and secure at least 70% of the CAC towards efforts to relieve the housing crisis.
Have a landlord acting in bad faith? Not sure? Start with our Get Help page for plain-language steps, TRAC/RTB links, and local support. This is information, not legal advice, but we can point you in the direction of some good lawyers ready to help.
Whistler runs on renters—but our stories rarely reach the rooms where decisions are made. We’re organizing so that nearly half of this town has half the voice at the table. Add your name to share your story, learn the specifics of local housing policy, and show up—together—at council, hearings, and consultations. With coordinated voices, facts, and lived experience, we can win more secure, affordable homes for the people who keep Whistler moving.
